Global Compact Network Kenya, in strategic partnership with Riara University, convened a future-focused Student Engagement Forum on Workplace Ethics, a defining moment in our mission to inspire, equip, and empower the next generation of ethical leaders.
As part of Global Compact Network Kenya youth engagement efforts under the UN Global Compact Strategy and the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), the forum convened over 100 students from various disciplines, to explore one of the most pressing issues of our time- Ethics.
The forum aimed to prepare young professionals not just for the workplace, but for principled, value-driven leadership. This initiative goes beyond raising awareness—it's about action, mentorship, and transformation.
John Ndirangu Mahianyu, representing Global Compact Network Kenya, led the session and challenged students to view ethics not as a theory but as a daily discipline and a core leadership trait that will define their careers and contributions to society.
During a panel discussion featuring Sally Mwenesi, Ethics and Fraud Prevention Specialist at Safaricom PLC, George Kiruthu, Head of Financial Crime Compliance at Absa Bank Kenya Ltd, and Dr. Fred Olwendo a lecturer at Riara University, the speakers emphasized that in an increasingly digital world, where artificial intelligence, data, and cyber threats dominate, the most significant risks are no longer purely financial, but ethical.
The panel encouraged students to begin cultivating their ethical identity early, noting that integrity is more than a value- it is the foundation of one’s professional brand.
