Nairobi, May 19, 2020 — Today, Global Compact Network Kenya announced a call for companies to nominate young professionals who are transforming their company’s sustainability practices for the better despite the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now in its second year, the Young SDG Innovators Programme is an opportunity for Kenyan companies participating in the United Nations Global Compact to identify young talent within their organizations to collaborate and accelerate business innovation towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that can contribute to building more resilient and equitable societies.

“The Progamme allows change makers to interact with young innovators that are thinking of different ways to do business and that is what will accelerate us into the future. This transformational journey offers so many opportunities for business to recover better from COVID-19 crisis,” said Judy Njino, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Kenya.

“Engaging the brightest and best talent to collaborate on reimagining global business with a key focus on sustainability is essential to emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic stronger and more determined than ever before,” said Lise Kingo, CEO & Executive Director of the UN Global Compact. “Now is the time to create new avenues for sustainable growth and shared value.”

Through a series of interactive workshops and activities, young professionals or “Innovators” will focus on identifying opportunities and solutions that bridge the SDGs, drive innovation and address relevant challenges in their companies. By providing opportunities to learn from global sustainability and innovation experts while working collaboratively with top talents from different sectors, the programme will challenge participants to develop new ideas, initiatives and solutions that have potential to advance their companies’ sustainability targets while delivering market value.

In addition to Global Compact Network Kenya, the Young SDG Innovators Programme will be implemented by Global Compact Local Networks in participating countries around the world. The programme will create a global network of the next generation of business leaders and help companies of all sizes unlock new opportunities while taking action to achieve the SDGs.
