The United Nations Global Compact in conjunction with the Global Compact Network Kenya convened a series of events as part of the Africa Climate Summit week under the banner of the Africa Business Leaders Coalition (ABLC).
In recognizing the critical role the Private Sector plays in providing solutions to the climate crisis, the convenings aimed at assessing the sector's progress on climate action and galvanizing support for ambitious actions and continued mobilization of climate forward companies.
Africa Business Leaders Coalition (ABLC) Regional Convening & Plenary:
The Africa Business Leaders Coalition held their regional meeting on the sidelines of the Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi.
The meeting focused on taking stock of progress made against commitments made in the 2022 climate statement. The meeting was co-chaired by Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary General and CEO United Nations Global Compact and Dr. James Mwangi, Equity Group Managing Director and CEO.
The ABLC was formed to amplify the collective voice of the African private sector. Established in May 2022 under the United Nations Global Compact, the ABLC unites 57 companies, collectively representing USD 150 billion in revenues and nearly one million employees.
Business Leaders Reception:
The reception brought together Africa business leaders with other stakeholders from the United Nations system to network in an informal setting.
This enabled exchanges of knowledge and ideas and forging of partnerships to take the impact beyond the Africa Climate Week and into COP28, and to create an environment to foster potential deals and collaborations.
