Global Compact Network Kenya Executive Director Judy Njino challenged companies to stretch their ambitions to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The Executive Director was speaking at the launch of Safaricom PLC 2023 sustainable business report dubbed “Pathway to a purpose-led technology company.”


Ms. Njino urged companies to connect with the UN Global Compact, emphasizing the organization's ability to provide support through its portfolio of programmes designed to deliver impact on key SDGs. She further highlighted the primacy of the ten universal principles of the UN Global Compact that guide responsible business practices. 


Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom and a Board member of the Global Compact Network Kenya, presided over the launch of the 12th Sustainability report, showcasing the company’s commitment to create opportunities to transform lives and contribute to sustainable livelihoods across Kenya. 


Stanbic Holdings PLC CEO Dr. Joshua Oigara challenged companies to collaborate and work together as no one can do it alone. He further posited, to deliver transformational breakthrough and success, there’s need for the right mindset, intentionality, execution with purpose at the heart of everything we pursue. Dr. Oigara called on the Private Sector present to join the UN Global Compact to build a critical mass of businesses committed to purpose.


On his part, Absa Kenya CEO and Board member at Global Compact Kenya, Mr. Abdi Mohammed spoke on the importance of driving an inclusive sustainability agenda. He noted, Inclusion of SMEs in Absa’s business ecosystem is critical to providing solutions to sustainability challenges at scale. While appreciating the global challenges, he cited the progress being made at country level and the need to spotlight this.
